Magnesium Plate

Vulcan Magnesium Plate offers a full range of pre-sensitized magnesium with associated chemicals, for the production of foil-stamping, letterpress, thermal dies and embossing dies. The plates produced are very detailed, even for very fine textures.

Application

1. Embossing

Embossing is the process of creating a raised image upon a design or text, usually associated with printed substrates. Embossing brings packaging to life with tactile, eye-catching effects which cannot be created in any way other than the traditional methods of using a relief plate and press pressure.

Due to the unique natural shoulder created by chemically etching magnesium, and in conjunction with a counter die or a male / female combination, magnesium is the perfect all-around embossing solution, particularly with the long-life qualities of Optimag.

Magnesium with a 4.00mm gauge is well-suited for use in steel rule dies, which allow the paper carton converter to emboss while cutting and creasing in a single pass. Elaborate three-dimensional designs come to life through engraving, whether made by CNC or hand engraving. Precision Magnesium® plates are a perfect choice with their enhanced tensile strength and machining qualities.

2. Hot Stamping

Hot Foil stamping creates striking visual effects, embellishing an array of printed products such as greeting cards, labels, and book covers, to name a few. The application of Hot Foil is well known to not only give brand recognition but also add and enhance consumer interest at the point of sale.

Traditional hot foil remains the highest quality print over other similar foil techniques. The slight debossing created by the application of heat and pressure adds a luxury feel and look to the print. However, magnesium plate, either chemically etched or CNC cut, remains the fastest, most cost-effective medium to create hot foil stamping dies.

3. Textured Dies

Creating a texture within a foiled design adds uniqueness to a foiled image, with countless textures easily created by our customers and designers. Textures can also be used for anti-counterfeiting purposes and, when used with other printing techniques, bring added value to brand managers.

Magnesium is ideal for creating textured dies, lending itself to double etching. With “Hydro Solve in a can,” any magnesium engraver can overnight offer textures to their customers.

4. Thermal Dies

Magnesium thermal dies are used to produce multiple vinyl decals for automotive detailing, truck fleet identification and interior design graphics. Chemically etched magnesium can handle the most intricate details while eliminating time-consuming bending of steel rule dies or producing single sheets by laser cutting.

5. Letterpress

Magnesium dies deliver crisp lines, patterns and typography for which letterpress is well known. The impression it makes into paper, gives letterpress greater visual definition to type and artwork in limited-edition books, upscale invitations and stationery.
