The wires are offered in two different pitches, each with a corresponding punch pattern:

• 3:1 Pitch: Binding wires with a 3:1 pitch will have 32 "loops" to fit the 3 holes-per-inch pattern of a 3:1 pitch wire binder machine. Sizes range from 3/16" - 9/16", with a page count range of 5 - 120
• 2:1 Pitch: Binding wires with a 2:1 pitch will have 21 "loops" to fit the 2 holes-per-inch pattern of a 2:1 pitch wire binder machine. Sizes range from 1/4" - 1-1/4", with a page count range of 20 - 260

In order to bind documents with double loop wire, a binding machine and a wire closer are required which has some variant:

• Small manual wire binding machines that offers a manual hole punch and a built in wire closer. electric wire binding machines with an punch and built in wire closer
• Separate punching and binding machine in order to increase productivity of the binding process
• Heavy duty punching system along with either a manual or an electric wire closing machine
• Automated punching system along with either a manual or an electric wire closing machine
